My name is Julie Gainsley, and I graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Journalism in 1991. I've primarily held positions in the advertising/marketing world but took time off to raise my children.
During that time, I spent 15 years working in the Ronald McDonald House School in Minneapolis. For ten of those years, I volunteered in the classroom supporting students in grades K-11 with their home-school curriculum or with lesson plans guided by our school director. These students faced extraordinary challenges and were often far from home. I enjoyed supporting them both academically and emotionally as they navigated difficult circumstances at such a young age.
After a decade of volunteering, I joined the staff as an assistant teacher. In this role, my responsibilities included student level testing, curriculum recommendations, creating individualized weekly lesson plans and more. With multiple grades in one classroom, it was crucial to understand each of the student's learning styles, strengths and weaknesses, and emotional readiness to navigate school.
When I transitioned from the Ronald McDonald House, I began tutoring ESL and have been working consistently with one primary student for over five years. This experience has allowed me to continue doing what I love - teaching with patience, flexibility, and a deep respect for each learner's unique style.
I believe every child approaches school differently, and I conduct every session with that in mind. My goal is to build confidence, provide support, and help your student feel capable and encouraged.
I would be honored to support your student as well. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
