As a teacher and tutor, my passion is to quickly establishing a rapport with my student and building their confidence in the subject we are working on. Because confidence breeds success and success breeds confidence.
In math there may be multiple ways to solve a problem, I use these strategies to help all students to help solve the problem. When a student answers a problem incorrectly, I do not let them give up. I encourage them to figure out where they went wrong, providing support and guidance where needed.
As an English major, reading is my passion. I want to find that passion in each of my students. I do this by:
Teaching letter-to-sound recognition through phonics and decoding of words. This is a critical skill for beginning and struggling readers.
Constantly exposing my students to sight words in many contexts helps them become familiar with them, therefore, making it easier to identify them in a book.
Reading aloud to them increases their fluency and comprehension. It also exposes them to vocabulary. And who doesn't enjoy a good book read to them?
Working as an elementary school teacher, keeps me up to date with the latest developments in education. It is important to know that each student learns differently and I pride myself in being able to identify their learning style and foster individualized instruction to each student.
