Hello! My name is Brittany and I enjoy helping students succeed in math and making the occasional joke or pun to lighten the mood when it feels like there is no solution to a problem (see what I did there?). Over the span of nine years of teaching professionally, I have helped students succeed in math by showing them how math is relatable and meaningful. This was achieved by establishing the fundamentals of math and providing plenty of repetition to master skills. It also invoked a great amount of creativity as students don’t necessarily enjoy learning information in the same format every single lesson.
You might be wondering how I turned from a middle school math teacher to a tutor. In college, I pursued my elementary education degree and an additional license in middle school math. Fresh out of college, I accepted my first job as a 6th grade math teacher and went on to teach 7th grade math and 8th grade Algebra classes. One of my specialties in this role was to work with smaller groups of students on targeted math skills. After nine years of teaching in the classroom, I made the decision to take a leave from teaching and stay home with my two children.
If you choose to work with me, here are a few things you can expect. First, I will provide you with an outlined lesson plan of what we will accomplish during our time. Second, the lesson will typically involve a fun and creative introduction followed by explicit instruction and end with adequate time to practice and master the skill(s) we are working on. Finally, it is my ultimate goal that you gain confidence and the skills you need to be successful, so I will assess and check in often that we are making progress towards your goals. I will provide you feedback on your progress and always want to hear your feedback on what helps you be a confident and successful learner.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
