Hello! My name is Chloe and I am a former Actuarial Professional who loves math and loves teaching it to others. I attended Concordia University Wisconsin where I tutored at the Math Help Desk, working with students in any and all math subjects, from Algebra to Calc II. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science (including courses such as Calculus I-III, Statistics, Economics, Accounting, Investing, and Finance), as well as an MBA with a concentration in finance. I then went on to work in the actuarial field and use my mathematical skills in my everyday work. While pursuing my ASA certification through the Society of Actuaries, I passed five professional exams including Probability, Financial Mathematics, Investments and Financial Markets, Statistics for Risk Modeling, and Predictive Analytics. I have since transitioned into education as I love working with students and helping others succeed! I have been working in schools for the last three years, primarily working one-on-one with students from age 4 to 18 to help them achieve their goals.
I enjoy math because I aim to understand it at a fundamental level. The best part of learning new concepts in math is when you get comfortable enough with the material that is starts to “click”! That is my goal when tutoring; I want the student to understand the fundamentals behind a problem, not just how to do the right steps to get the right answer. If you understand WHY those steps get you the right answer, you will be able to adapt that understanding to solve different types of problems, and then you’re off and running! I have tutored many people who say they are “not good at math” but the same students have left our session with smiles on their faces because they finally get it! We all learn differently and sometimes we just need a different approach to understand the concepts being taught. My goal is to help students build confidence so they are ready to challenge themselves, rather than count themselves out, when it comes to math.
