After a few decades of teaching middle and high school English, from Basic to AP, I have begun to tutor. When I retired, I escaped Minnesota winter weather by teaching English Language Learners. I've worked winters in India (6), Thailand (2) and most recently, Athens, Greece (5...last 2 on Zoom).
I have taught ACT English & Reading courses for several years. Two years ago, I began working with students preparing for the IELTS and TOEFL English writing and conversation.

Excellent mastery of vocabulary
Mary-Ellen helped me with my SAT vocabulary. Her knowledge is amazing! She was able to help me find related words that helped me guess what more complicated words are by going at the roots. I knew that regicide meant something to do with a king because I have studied Latin, but when Mary-Ellen pointed me to homicide, I realized that it must mean to kill a king. Another example is ascendant, which I didn't know. She asked me if I knew ascend and then I was able to go over the practice question and get it right. She's really brilliant. She studied Shakespeare at Oxford and had a career as a high school English and French teacher.
