About Drew

Bio

I love learning and enjoy helping others find success; that’s why I became a teacher. I’ve pursued formal learning with an undergraduate degree in History and Social Studies Education and a master’s degree in Social Studies Learning and Instruction. I hold a current teaching license in Minnesota. I began my career by teaching middle school and high school social studies for eight years in international schools in China and Mexico . Those experiences were foundational to my personal growth...

I love learning and enjoy helping others find success; that’s why I became a teacher. I’ve pursued formal learning with an undergraduate degree in History and Social Studies Education and a master’s degree in Social Studies Learning and Instruction. I hold a current teaching license in Minnesota. I began my career by teaching middle school and high school social studies for eight years in international schools in China and Mexico . Those experiences were foundational to my personal growth through the exploration of varied cultures and history. Professionally, it was wonderful to work with students from all over the world. Combined with my experience in Minnesota, I’ve taught for 13+ years.

Non-fiction writing like essays, FRQs, thesis creation, etc. can be frustrating. I remember some of my own specific struggles as a high school student, but I also had great teachers leading me towards improvement and ultimately success. I’ve held onto those memories as I guide students through the challenges of writing in my social studies classes.

I’ve taught a wide range of social studies courses, including three different AP courses, with my students scoring well above the global mean on the AP exam. My continual pursuit of learning and travel have provided the context to enable me to help students in engaging ways. I have been an AP Reader (grader/scorer) at two AP Readings, where the free response questions are graded. My experiences at the AP Readings led to greater score gains for my subsequent students, particularly on their writing. My tutoring focus is on Human Geography - both standard level and Advanced Placement (AP).

I love helping students find success and confidence in themselves as students and life-long learners. We do this by working on study skills, organization, reading for understanding, school assignments, essays, tests, projects, and summer assignments. I love teaching and tutoring AP Human Geography! During tutoring, I weave in numerous current examples and relevant stories from living overseas in China and Mexico. I have materials I created especially for tutoring this course, but I can certainly help with homework or projects also.

Drew is very professional , an excellent communicator, makes every session fun and productive. He is very knowledgeable regarding anything AP Human Geography. He explains things in a way that is easy to understand and provides practical examples to relate to the concepts. After every unit, Drew went over practice questions to brainstorm and help with prep for the AP test. He is an excellent tutor and his teaching techniques are very effective. Fantastic tutor for AP Human Geography

Mr. Drew taught my daughter for the AP Human Geography. She wasn't confident at the beginning of semester and was struggling the FRQ.
