Hello, I'm Kari! I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in English and minors in classics, music, and secondary education. I am also a licensed Communication Arts and Literature teacher for grades 5-12 in the state of Minnesota. In my master's coursework at the University of St. Thomas, I focused on English literature, editorial work, and publication. Beginning fall 2026, I will be completing my PhD in English literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In college, I was drawn to Bandura's social cognitive theory of motivation. My philosophy is that motivation stems from self-efficacy, or confidence in one's own ability to achieve a desired goal. Thus, I focus on helping students develop confidence in their knowledge and skills while learning new content. Specifically, I practice reciprocal teaching; I teach a skill, model it, offer the student the opportunity to practice it with guidance, and then encourage them to execute it independently.
With five years of experience, I have taught students ranging from middle school to college in England and the United States. Most recently, I have taught dual-credit college composition courses and tutored college undergraduates.
I strive to foster metacognition—the student's awareness of their own intellectual growth. Thus, I always welcome student input. I aim to respond promptly to all queries. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule your first lesson!
