Hi, I’m Thea! I have a B.A. in Biochemistry from St. Catherine University and am an ASQ Certified Quality Engineer. While I was a student at St. Kate’s, I worked as a science tutor in the O’Neill Center for three years, helping other students work through biology, chemistry, and related coursework. I found tutoring very rewarding. Not only because I enjoyed helping others, but because explaining science clearly helped me become a better student as well.

As a tutor, my goal is to help students understand science instead of just memorizing it. I enjoy finding the “story” within a topic; how the pieces connect, why a process works the way it does, and how to make complicated material feel more familiar. I especially like helping students slow down, identify where they are getting stuck, and build a clearer path forward.
My background also includes regulated laboratory and medical device work, where I spent a lot of time breaking down complex technical processes into clear, organized steps for training tools. I can help with biology, chemistry, introductory biochemistry, scientific writing, lab reports, and study skills for science courses.
My teaching style is patient, structured, and conversational. I like to ask questions, talk through the reasoning, and help students connect new concepts to what they already understand. I often use visuals, step-by-step explanations, examples, and “why this works” reasoning so students can build confidence and independence. I am also comfortable working with students who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure where to begin.
If you’re looking for help making science feel clearer and more manageable, I’d be happy to work with you.
