As a writing coach, I help you develop skills to confidently express your ideas in clear, articulate, and effective writing.

I’m a professional medical editor and writer with a master’s degree and 20+ years of experience in academic and health science communications. I’m a member of the American Medical Writers Association, with credentials in medical and plain language writing. Additionally, I delight in teaching!

My background includes tutoring in college, serving as a graduate teaching assistant, and working as an epidemiologist writing grants and manuscripts, editing a physicians’ newsletter, and mentoring colleagues in developing writing skills. As a freelance medical editor and writer since 2017, I provide writing, editing, and consulting services for physicians and researchers (manuscripts, abstracts), doctoral candidates (dissertations), and others. This background adds to my effectiveness as a writing coach helping students compose compelling admissions essays and personal statements for college, graduate school, and medical school.

I take a planful approach to coaching writing students, aiming to develop the writer rather than merely correct errors. I teach strategies for brainstorming, organizing ideas, developing structured outlines, breaking projects into manageable pieces, honing vocabulary, editing for grammar and punctuation, and proofreading. I work with students in high school and beyond as well as professionals seeking coaching, editing, or proofreading support to achieve their goals. I provide edits and comments in Word, PowerPoint, or PDF documents and/or conversationally via live screen sharing.

As a writing coach, I combine writing and editing expertise, a kind and encouraging demeanor, and a love of teaching. I enjoy building relationships with students and helping them grow into competent, confident, and independent writers.

I’d love to help you with your writing challenges. You can schedule a free 15-minute introductory session to see if we’re a good fit. Let’s get started now!

I have an MPH in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health and 20+ years of professional experience in public health epidemiology. I worked at the Minnesota Department of Health and conducted research in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), specializing in infectious diseases and global health. My areas of applied expertise include health-related scientific or medical writing and editing (including numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and funded grant proposals) and consulting/coaching. I was a graduate teaching assistant for the foundational Epidemiology I course, and my master’s thesis focused on performance characteristics of serologic hepatitis C antibody tests in blood donors.
