Hi, I’m Tayla. I was diagnosed with ADHD, executive dysfunction, and learning disabilities when I was nine, and those early challenges shaped me into the kind of tutor who teaches with patience, strategy, and genuine empathy. I tutor English, Reading Comprehension, Writing, College Admissions Essays, Personal Statements, Study Skills, and Communication Skills for students from middle school through graduate and professional programs. I graduated from Tulane University with a double major in English Literature and Public Health, studied abroad in India through the School for International Training’s Public Health and Community Action program, and later earned a Fulbright–Nehru Research Grant and a Critical Language Enhancement Award in Hindi. I recently completed a dual-degree J.D./M.P.H. at the University of Minnesota, where I continued developing my writing, research, and teaching skills in academic and professional settings.
My tutoring approach is interactive and centered on helping students understand their own thinking, not just memorize information. In our sessions, we identify your goals, break them into manageable steps, and practice skills in ways that fit your learning style. I’ve taught workshops, seminars, and one-on-one sessions with learners at every level, and I specialize in helping students build confidence in their writing and communication. Recently, one of my students doubled his medical school interview offers after we rewrote his personal statement and practiced how he told his story. Writing has always been a core part of who I am: my grandmother taught English, I was a Louder Than a Bomb semifinalist, and I’ve received multiple Scholastic writing awards. Whether you’re writing an admissions essay, strengthening your reading and writing foundations, or learning how to study more effectively, I’m here to help you express not just what you know, but who you are.
