As a former math teacher, I wanted to keep the best part of the work so I've been tutoring ever since. I have a Master's Degree in Education, and have been certified and taught in Massachusetts and Florida, and did some substitute teaching in Minnesota.
While I have tutored extensively through Algebra and Geometry, I'd say I specialize in Middle School Math. One reason for that is that not enough teachers seem to connect with the adolescent mind. Young people make sense of their world and their math by understanding WHY. That's why I teach math in a step-by-step way that can be duplicated over and over. The other reason I love middle schoolers i that turning on the lightbulb in math at that age boosts confidence and prepares them for success in math in high school.
I believe it is more important to understand the WHY behind the math than to memorize, especially when some memorize without knowing what it means. If a student gets the math and logic behind the process, calling it up and using it correctly and faithfully is much, much more likely.
