Throughout my career, I have served in multiple instructional and mentorship roles requiring complex material to be taught clearly and effectively to learners from diverse backgrounds. As a U.S. Coast Guard officer, I served as an instructor for the International Maritime Officers Course, teaching operational and technical concepts to officers from 19 different countries. This role required adapting teaching styles to different learning needs, educational backgrounds, and language abilities.
Following my Coast Guard career, I earned a MS in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University, and am currently a medical student at Mayo Clinic's Alix School of Medicine, where I am receiving advanced training in human biology, physiology, biochemistry, and clinical medicine.
My academic training emphasizes not only mastery of complex scientific concepts but also the ability to apply them in real-world clinical problem-solving. As a result, my aim is to teach via an approach that emphasizes conceptual understanding, active recall, and problem-solving strategies. As a current medical student, I also bring insight into how foundational science concepts are applied in medical training, helping pre-med students learn material in a way that prepares them for future success rather than short-term exams alone.
