Turn your AP Physics / College Physics Anxiety into Skill, Confidence
I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students.
Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics...

Took away physics anxiety and replaced it with confidence and big smiles
My daughter started working with Digby because she was struggling in AP Physics I. She's a hard-working, capable student but was having trouble grasping the course. She would study and thought she understood the material, only to be wiped out on the tests. Working so hard and not seeing the results she wanted left her with little confidence in physics. She was too self conscious to seek additional help from her teacher much less talk to her classmates about it. The frustration and anxiety led to tears and thoughts of dropping the course. But she needed to take AP Physics for her college application; more importantly, she is not a quitter. Digby was the 5th or 6th tutor we tried. I lost count. I found Digby after reading many reviews and thought he might be the one. But my daughter hesitated at first. She wanted a local, in-person tutor, not someone online. She was hoping to work with someone younger and not a former physics teacher. In fact, she was already working with a local young woman who had just graduated from an Ivy League university. But this young woman, like many of my daughter's other previous tutors, would tell her how to do the problems so to be done with the assignment. This would have been fine if that was all she needed to pass the class. My daughter wanted and needed to understand what she was doing well enough to handle the subject on her own, without someone looking over her shoulder and "spoon feeding" her. So she agreed to try online tutoring with Digby. She felt like she clicked with Digby on the first session. This was not the case with many of her other tutors. After the first session, Digby suggested that they not focus on getting through the homework. Instead, he wanted to go back to square one so that she could master the fundamental building blocks from the ground up. Digby wanted to teach her the basic principles of physics, and how to use them to figure things out herself. Fortunately, she agreed. She started working with Digby in October and over the next few months I noticed a change in her attitude towards physics. It was as if the lights started to go off for her and she started to get the concepts that were discussed in class. She became more confident, and started to raise her hand in class and offer input. Physics class went from something she dreaded to something she enjoyed. She would sometimes come home with a big smile because of how well things had gone in physics that day. By December, she was solid on the fundamentals and caught up in class, and felt confident and well-prepared going into her end-of-quarter exams. She felt good about herself, because she was taking a tough class and understanding the material. She didn't just become more confident in physics. She became confident in all her classes, because once she overcame the challenge of physics, she knew she could handle any other class. In the weeks before the AP Physics I exam, when her classmates were anxiously cramming, she was relaxed and confident. Digby actually ended their final session early because she was fully prepared and didn't need additional help. After the AP exam, she came home and said, "Digby really prepared me!" I can't sing Digby's praises enough. It made me so happy to see my daughter's confidence, and I am so grateful that she felt good about herself, and to have seen her go from dreading physics to lighting up about it.

Details how formulas came to be clearly.
Digby carefully broke down how certain formulas were derived and when to apply them. This simplified the over all concept of work and energy for me. Im am looking forward to our next tutoring session so I can continue to advance my learnings in the world of physics.

Very Knowledgeable and Calming to my Jittery Student
He was well knowledgeable in his space. He helped determined where my student was and calmed his nerves. He determined that he knows his stuff but needs to know how to apply his knowledge like as in a problem. This was a great experience!

Great session.
When I asked my son how his tutoring sessions was Digby, he said GREAT! It is usually a fight to have him work with a tutor and then he never thinks it is actually helpful! So what a surprise that he thought it was “great and very helpful”!

Comfortable and relatable
He made me feel comfortable from the gate, and got a good idea of where I was at. He gave me some confidence that I wasn’t as lost as I initially thought, gave me the help I needed. He lets you work on a problem to see where your at, jumps in when you ask. I will be working with him again!

Knowledgeable and very patient
Started learning the very basics of Physics, helped me throughout every step of the way. He made sure I completely understood the concept and went back at any time! Hope to be working with him more.

Best Physics Tutor Around
My son has never had a physics class before, but he decided to take AP Physics 1 this year. At the beginning of the class he was lost. So I decided to get him some help. Right away we noticed a difference in not only his scores, but in the way he approached problems too. Digby not just helped him with his homework, but also taught the key concepts of each topics so that he was able to tackle any problem no matter the difficulty. Digby does not just try to show you how to do that one certain problem, instead he taught him the fundamentals in order to apply them to many different problem types. He was very patient and he always made sure to find open time slots so that we could schedule lessons. I highly recommend.

Confidence-builder Makes Physics Make Sense!
Digby was outstanding in helping our daughter develop confidence with AP Physics. She is a great student, but physics was a struggle. After trying a couple of other tutors, we thankfully found Digby. When she started physics she said nothing was making sense and she was not passing quizzes. After working with Digby we saw her grade in physics jump from a low C to an A! Not only that, she developed confidence in the classroom to answer questions and even help her classmates. Unlike other tutors we’d tried, Digby took time to understand our daughters needs and then adapted a plan that would work specifically for her. Most recently he helped her prepare for the AP Physics exam - and while we don’t have the result, she said the test was much easier than she’d expected because Digby had taught her the core concepts so well. It is, thus, without any reservation that we give Digby our very strongest endorsement and highest recommendation!

Awesome AP Physics Tutor!
Digby knows the materials extremely well, and is very familiar with the AP format. He is able to to explain complex problems in a very clear way, and provide ample problem set for the student to practice. Digby is also very responsive and accommodating!

An excellent tutor with years of experience
I went to Digby for help with my AP Physics C class, specifically during the second semester when we were covering E&M. To begin he reviewed the more basic principles of E&M to make sure that I had a solid foundational understanding of the physics topics. Digby was great at walking me through past exam FRQs and teaching me how to approach the problems, how to format my answers, and especially how to set up calculus equations. As the AP exams approached he also helped me review the Mechanics material by first refreshing the basics and then explaining units that I had had trouble understanding in the first semester. Digby can be any type of tutor you need, either as someone who teaches you the material you are not understanding in class, as someone who teaches you how to take the exams, or as someone who will simply help you practice physics problems and be there to correct your mistakes. He is very patient and can provide you with all the study material you could ask for. I highly recommend Digby to any AP physics student who needs help understanding the material or studying for the AP exams.
