Hello! My name is Dr. Eileen D. I have a unique and diverse background in both education and public health. I hold a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota. My journey in teaching began as a high school math and science teacher, where I worked with students from various backgrounds, helping them connect abstract concepts to the real world. Over time, I transitioned into academia, eventually teaching graduate-level epidemiology courses, including Epidemiology 1 and 2, at both the master's and PhD levels. As an adjunct professor, I've also taught grant writing and served as a research associate, which has allowed me to mentor graduate students in research methodology, biostatistics and scientific writing.
My teaching style is tailored to the needs of each student, whether I'm working with high schoolers who need foundational support in math and science or PhD students preparing for their qualifying exams. In fact, I've had the pleasure of tutoring students for their PhD qualifying exams with a 100% pass rate! I strive to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions and explore concepts deeply. I use a mix of traditional teaching methods combined with hands-on, real-world examples that make learning both engaging and practical. Whether it's one-on-one tutoring or in a larger classroom setting, I focus on building a strong rapport with my students, ensuring that they not only understand the material but also feel confident in applying it. My ultimate goal is to instill a love for learning that will stay with my students long after they leave my classroom.
