Hi! My name is Sheri. I have taught and tutored English, ESL/ESOL and Spanish for several years both in the US and in Mexico and online throughout the US and to clients in foreign countries. My students have come from here and many counties around the globe. Many from the Middle East, Asian, Latin American and European countries. They have ranged in age from young children to professional corporate executives and everything in between. Having learned and studied other languages and cultures myself, I'm uniquely aware of the challenges in this process and am able to provide insider tips to overcome these difficulties. I also designed an ESL/ESOL program of curriculum for a technical school in El Paso, Texas. In addition to language is integrating with the culture. I have worked with many foreign (H1B1 visa) professional employees helping them to adapt and to integrate quickly to the US work practices and culture. Having BA's in Spanish and Management from the College of St. Benedict, I realize time is money and together we need to find the most effective teaching method for you. Also, the time you invest studying is directly reflected in your progress. Let's get started!

Cooking

Cooking

I started cooking and baking when I was in elementary school. Ever since, I've expanded my abilities with learning different dishes from many ethnic groups. Needlework

I have embroidered and done crocheting as a pastime since I was a child in elementary school. Some of the things include: embroidering dishtowels and pillowcases, tablecloths and napkins, and adornments to clothes. In crocheting, I work with yarn, thread and cloth. I've made several afghans, doilies and lace trims to pillowcases.
Phonics

Phonics

In tutoring English and ESL / ESOL and with and with any of the other languages I've studied or tutored, it isn't possible to learn them without having a solid understanding and ability of the phonetic sounds. This is an area I review with my students to be sure they have this knowlege and it is commonly a weak area. By seeing how a student pronounces these sounds, it helps me to tell if there are physical limitations in the sound formation or if it is simply something that needs more practice.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

In my past work in marketing and management I needed to give many presentations and training sessions. With this, I learned about how to develop a professional presence, how to use body language to convey confidence, how to speak and project one's voice and different styles and strategies to use when communicating.

Patient and Versatile Tutor

Sheri tutored my child in AP spanish for his junior year of high school. After two quarters of my honor student struggling in the class we reached out to sheri through Wyant.com. Her experience and testimonials were the deciding factor in choosing Sheri. Our decision was the well worth it! She was able to help my child with the variety of spanish assignments he had to complete during the later half of the year. Even when he didn't have assignment she worked on speaking and understanding spanish conversation and in the words of my child " helped him, make sense of this language." She even helped him with structuring his spanish writing and tips to reduce anxiety over speaking in Spanish. She more importantly helped his confidence in the subject. Sheri is worth the investment, I consider this an investment because my son's spanish average increased from an C to an A. Anyone who chooses her will be lucky to have to as a tutor. I am grateful to her for helping my son.

Helpful with test preparation

Sheri was flexible and accommodating. She helped me prepare for my Spanish OPI exam by reviewing grammar concepts, and clarifying vocabulary for me. She did a nice job correcting me when I made errors.

Knowledgeable, flexible, and highly professional

Sheri provided grammar tutoring classes to my 15 year old brother, who visited me during the summer only for one month. He lives in Moscow and even though his English is good, his grammar needed help. He loved working with Sheri, she explained and clarified many of very difficult concepts for him, and he learned quite a bit from her. Sheri was also very flexible since we didn’t have clear schedule and we still managed to schedule multiple sessions. Sheri also recommended some great books that he can now use on his own in Moscow.

As Good As It Gets

Sheri was a great help to me. When I first came to states, I couldn't say a word except maybe hello and thank you. Now I can write this review and all this I own to Sheri. Sheri taught me not only English, but how people in US think and speak. The path from where I was to where I am was not easy, however, we accomplished it and again thanks to Sheri. Thank you Sheri for all the hard work and believing in me. If Sheri succeeded with me, she can do it with everyone. Thank you.

Very patient.

My son wants to do better but isn't always the most attentive of students. Sheri is patient and thorough with him. He has already expressed an interest in having her be his school year tutor.
