I have a strong background in mathematics through my studies in computer science and data science at Purdue University, where I focused on machine intelligence. My coursework has included algebra, geometry, precalculus, calculus, probability, statistics, discrete mathematics, and other quantitative subjects. I qualified for AIME back in high school and have worked on competition math from 6th to 12th grade. I enjoy math and especially enjoy finding different ways to explain a concept until it makes sense to the student.
I have previous one-on-one tutoring experience working with middle school students (6th-8th graders) for Dreamcatchers, a student volunteer afterschool tutoring program for underprivileged youth. My approach is to first understand what the student is struggling with and then break the problem down into smaller, easier-to-understand pieces. Rather than simply showing students how to get an answer, I try to help them understand why the solution works so they can apply the same idea to future problems. I am patient and comfortable adjusting my explanation based on how the student learns best. I always try my best to make sure they are learning but also having fun.
I am particularly comfortable tutoring middle school and high school mathematics, including prealgebra, algebra, geometry, precalculus, and calculus, as well as probability and statistics. I enjoy working with students one-on-one and creating a relaxed environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while learning.
