Hi I'm Saumith!
I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Minnesota with highest distinction, where I scored above the 90th percentile on the MCAT. I am now a fourth-year student at the University of Minnesota Medical School, set to graduate next year. I scored similarly well on Step 2 and deeply understand what the USMLE is testing for. This combination of a strong science foundation and recent, firsthand experience with both major standardized exams, and the MCAT, gives me a clear sense of what each test actually demands and how to prepare for it efficiently.
My teaching experience goes back further than medical school. As an English Language Learner myself growing up, I spent five years tutoring English to about 20 students total, usually working in small groups of two to three at a time. That work taught me how to break material down for learners starting from very different places and how to keep a small group progressing together. During medical school, I moved into tutoring underclassmen and undergrads one-on-one, in dedicated sessions focused on medical school applications or Step 1 and Step 2 preparation.
My approach to tutoring the MCAT, Step 1, and Step 2 starts with figuring out the values, priorities and needs on individual people rather than using a one size fits all solution. I'm a big advocate for spaced repetition, and I consider pinpointing a student's specific topic level weaknesses and directing them to the resources best suited to closing those particular gaps, to be one of my core strengths as a tutor. For students working on medical school applications, I focus on helping them understand and highlight the qualities they already have and admissions committees consistently prioritize, so their application communicates what actually matters to reviewers.
