My favorite subject to teach is Latin. I have extensive experience reading Latin of every period, especially Classical (e.g. Cicero, Virgil, Horace, Seneca) and Patristic (Augustine, Jerome, Leo, Boethius, John Cassian). I also am a fluent Latin speaker and am comfortable leading students either via a conversational method (speaking only Latin during the class period) or by reading, grammar lessons, discussion or translation. I am familiar with the Lingua Latina per Se Illustrata series and can work through that with you as well. Finally, I love to introduce people to new reading material in Latin, so if you would like me to curate some readings (Vulgate passages, Patristic sermons, Classical poems) that are suited to your Latin experience, let me know! We can work through the text together to help you understand everything.
I earned my BA in Latin, summa cum laude, at Belmont Abbey College, taking all of my classes for the major through Veterum Sapientia Institute (VSI). VSI boasts some of the finest Latin teachers in the world and conducts the vast majority of its classes entirely in Latin. I am also pursuing a teaching credential with VSI, which I will complete this fall. This program has involved me working as a student teacher at a Latin immersion week. I have also learned the best of numerous immersive language pedagogy methods, such as Rassias method, WAYK (Where Are Your Keys), and TPRS.
At Belmont Abbey College, I also gained a strong grounding in many fields of knowledge through the Liberal Arts core curriculum, so I am happy to help with a variety of subjects, such as English and philosophy.
I enjoy one-on-one teaching so much that I sometimes find myself "tutoring" friends of mine without meaning to! Few things make me happier than walking a student through a problem and seeing something suddenly "click" for them. Therefore, I am flexible and open to many different resources and ways of teaching. I am very responsive so please let me know if you have any questions or want to schedule a lesson!
