I'm a full stack software engineer with 4+ years of production experience, specializing in React and TypeScript. I spent most of that time at Target building React and Next.js frontends for internal platforms used across their 5,000+ person engineering organization, including an LLM-powered querying tool that let non-technical business stakeholders interact with complex engineering data through a React UI.
My teaching experience comes from mentoring engineers professionally. At Target I served as a pod coach, working one on one and in small groups with engineers across experience levels to build their React and Docker skills. I focused on building genuine understanding rather than just getting code to work; walking through component architecture, state management patterns, hooks, and debugging approaches in a way that stuck. I mentored 15 or more engineers in this capacity over the course of my time there.
My approach with students is direct and practical. I'd rather build something real together than lecture through slides. I'm comfortable meeting people where they are, whether that's a complete beginner trying to understand what a component is or someone intermediate who wants to get comfortable with useEffect or custom hooks. I graduated from Prime Digital Academy, a full stack software engineering bootcamp in Minneapolis, so I know what it's like to learn this material from scratch and I know how to explain it without assuming prior knowledge.
