Hi! I love teaching! I have 25 years of experience as an educator-including 15 years teaching/leading special education programs in the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Chicago-measurably improving outcomes for students with various learning backgrounds, needs and barriers. My master’s degree and teaching license are in special education. I’ve taught/tutored students from PreK-College and adults in all subjects including high school math/science/English/Spanish/ACT/SAT. I’ve taught 1:1, small group and whole classes. I specialize in phonics, math, improving executive functioning skills-study skills/organization/time management/etc.-and special-ed advocacy to help understand or get services.
If you like content broken down clearly into manageable steps/chunks, an always positive pep, (and a bit of sarcasm!) I’ll be a good fit for you. I believe everyone can learn when unlocked in the correct way. I’ll get to know you, how you learn best and teach to your needs while using research-based practices. We’ll measure your growth together to assess effectiveness of teaching methods and help you feel motivated as we celebrate each incremental success on your path to subject/skill mastery. My goal as a tutor is to help you succeed so you don’t need a tutor! My mission is to help you embrace challenges while feeling successful, leading to more positive feelings about school and more comfort when trying and learning new things. It’s okay to make mistakes! Sometimes it’s how we learn best. The key is to keep going and ask for help when needed. If you’re reading this you’ve taken the 1st step to get help, which isn’t always easy. So great work getting here! If you choose to work with me I’ll partner with you and provide empathy, expertise and accountability.
When not working I like to relax and spend time with friends/family. I live in Minneapolis with my husband-Ross and dog-Loki. We all enjoy the 7 acre Minnehaha Dog Park on the Mississippi River when the weather’s above “freeze your paws off!”
