I'm Violet! I received my undergrad degree in Psychology (with a concentration in Neuroscience) from Carleton College in in 2017. I worked in a research lab studying spoken language comprehension throughout my undergrad experience, and worked as a lab manager for a year after graduating.

I started my PhD in Psychological & Brain Sciences in 2018 at Washington University, and graduated in 2023 (picking up a Master's degree along the way!). In addition to studying psycholinguistics and other topics related to cognitive psychology, I took many advanced statistics classes to hone my expertise in statistics and data analysis. I served as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate- and graduate-level statistics courses, led the R coding bootcamp for incoming PhD students in our department, and tutored several graduate students in graduate-level statistics courses. I also served as the Instructor of Record for two sections on Introduction to Psychology during my time in graduate school.

I've been teaching at a small liberal arts college for almost three years, but I love teaching so much that I want to do more of it in my free time in a tutoring setting! My favorite course to teach is statistics for psychology majors. Nothing brings me more joy than helping students—particularly those who feel uneasy around mathematics—build confidence and realize that we're all "math people."

Data Analysis

Data Analysis

I have a PhD in Psychological and Brain Sciences. PhD programs in psychology are research-intensive, but even before that I had four years of undergraduate experience working in a psychology research lab, analyzing data, and publishing research. I therefore have about 10 years of experience analyzing data in R.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I have my PhD in Psychological & Brain Sciences from Washington University in St. Louis. Although my focus was on psycholinguistics (i.e., I am not a neuroscientist), my training involved many neurosciences courses. I also majored in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience in undergrad.
Psychology

Psychology

I teach undergraduate psychology at a small liberal arts college. I teach Intro Psych, Sensation & Perception, Statistics, and R. I also run a cognitive psychology lab on how humans understand spoken language.
R

R

I teach undergraduate psychology majors statistics and coding in R (assuming no background knowledge!), and I've run multiple R workshops for beginners.
Statistics

Statistics

I teach statistics to undergraduate psychology majors at a small liberal arts college, and run a research lab studying speech perception that involves data analysis in R.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I teach several courses at the college level in the psychology department at a small liberal arts college that places a heavy emphasis on writing skills. I also run a research lab in which I teach my students how to write concisely and clearly present evidence supporting a topic (i.e., a thesis). Finally, I have my PhD in Psychological & Brain Sciences, which involves writing many papers that provide evidence supporting claims.
