I’m Matthew, and my passion for Latin, great books, and classical education has shaped my journey as an educator and tutor. With a BA in Classics from the University of Minnesota and an MAT in Latin from UMass Amherst, I have built a strong academic foundation in the language, literature, and cultural heritage of the ancient world. My studies immersed me in the works of authors like Virgil, Cicero, and Ovid, while also honing my ability to teach the intricacies of Latin grammar and its connection to the broader tapestry of classical thought. This academic background equips me to guide students through the challenges and joys of learning Latin, whether they are deciphering texts or exploring the philosophical and historical ideas of antiquity.

My teaching experience spans over a decade, working with students from 3rd grade to college in a variety of settings, including classrooms, small groups, and one-on-one tutoring. I’ve taught in both public and private schools, where I designed engaging lessons that bring Latin to life through interactive activities, such as translating myths, analyzing classical texts, and connecting ancient ideas to modern contexts. For younger students, I use storytelling and games to make Latin accessible and fun, while for older students, I emphasize critical thinking and textual analysis to deepen their appreciation of the great books.
