Hey, my name is Sonaa and I'm a student at the University of St. Thomas majoring in Actuarial Science. I've always had a passion for mathematics and have been around it my whole life. From middle school to high school, I was apart of my high school's math team. As a sophomore, I broke my school record for most points in a season and placed top 3 in Minneapolis. Additionally, I also graduated my high school as valedictorian.

Hey, my name is Sonaa and I'm a student at the University of St. Thomas majoring in Actuarial Science. I've always had a passion for mathematics and have been around it my whole life. I've had many opportunities the past couple of years working with kids in all types of youth programs, camps, and after school care. Working with kids have never been an issue for me. This past year, I was given the opportunity to tutor at the Boys & Girls Club as a Page Scholar. I helped kids ranging from elementary to high school with various math questions. Instead of simply solving the question with the student, I like to assess where they're at and build from there.
I believe the most essential part of mathematics is understanding. It is more than getting a question right, it's understanding why and how it is right. I believe having a strong understanding creates a strong foundation which makes mathematics a lot easier to learn. Additionally, I'm very big on communication and make it clear to my students that if they have any questions or something doesn't make sense to let me know.
