Hello students, my name is Sam, and I would like to use my deep content and pedagogical knowledge to help you learn physics! I have a BA, Master’s, PhD, and teaching license in physics as well as a BA in Math. When I was a graduate student, I was a teaching assistant for all levels of college physics classes. I have taught introductory classes, along with upper-level mechanics and electromagnetism classes. During this time, I realized I loved teaching and seeing students overcome their doubts and finally grasp a difficult subject. Because of this, I decided to also get a Minnesota teaching license, and I became a high school teacher.
Thus, I have taught physics at the high school and college level for 13 years now, and I have employed a variety of methods to best ensure my students can learn difficult physics and math concepts. I employ a Socratic method taught to me during my time as a graduate student. It uses active questioning and building on background knowledge to help students build confidence and master physics concepts. From my time as a high school teacher, I know how to assess what you already know before the beginning of a session to best respect your time, and how to assess what you have mastered and what you need more time on for future sessions.
In order to best serve your needs, please message me with your homework or study materials 24 hours before a session, what you have already attempted, and where you are struggling. After sessions, I will send you recommendations for future work as well as some suggestions to keep your momentum going. I also have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Lastly, I always welcome feedback to help improve my own craft.
If you want to feel more confident and better understand the physics or mathematics you are learning, I would love to help you.
Sincerely,
Sam
