Hello! I have been a classroom teacher since 1999. I am licensed in Minnesota in both 5-12 Mathematics and K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL). I have taught mathematics to middle school, high school, and college students. For much of my career, I have also worked with adult learners finishing their diploma or their GED or preparing for college, as well as immigrants and refugees looking to improve their English.
When I teach mathematics to my students, I focus on the MEANING of the concepts, not just strategies to memorize. I believe that learning math is more than just how to get the answer, but WHY is it the answer? How do you know it's the answer? I teach my students to have a "growth mindset" in that anyone can learn mathematics with the patience and right approach.
I have a BS in Physics from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and a Masters in Education from Hamline University in St. Paul. I have also done additional graduate level mathematics coursework at the University of Minnesota and Moorhead State University.
I would love to work with you to help with your math. Hope to hear from you soon!
