I have taught all K-6 grade levels and worked with special needs students in various settings, including one-room schoolhouses, public schools, and charter schools. I have also homeschooled and worked as a middle school special ed paraprofessional. As a Minnesota licensed teacher and a mom of five (one with ADHD/SPD), I understand diverse learning needs.

I am trained in:

Orton-Gillingham (Level I/K-3)
Lindamood-Bell
Saxon Phonics
Handwriting Without Tears
Step Up to Writing
I specialize in helping students with dyslexia and other learning challenges by using a combination of Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood-Bell methods. I tailor my approach to each student's unique needs to ensure effective and efficient learning.

I assist students of all ages with reading and writing, as well as K-6 math and business math. I incorporate sensory breaks as needed and often take lessons outdoors. My teaching focuses on both the emotional and academic needs of students, fostering a positive and confident learning environment.

I believe parents play a crucial role in their child's education. After each session, I provide feedback, discuss assessments, offer homework activities, and plan new goals as the student progresses.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I have been trained in Orton-Gillingham (Level 1/K-3) multi-sensory instruction. I have 1 year of hands-on experience and find the program directly aligns to the Guided Reading program. In addition to OG, I have training in Lindamood-Bell, Project Read, Reading First (Colorado), and Saxon Phonics.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a licensed teacher in Minnesota. I started my career in education by student teaching in a Kindergarten class, and was asked to step up to emergency sub after the regular teacher became ill. I taught a combination 1-3 grade Black History class and combination 4-6 all subjects class in a private school. I then taught 6th grade Earth Science and Literature in a middle school setting. I met "Highly Qualified" status under NCLBA in Colorado while teaching three years as a 2nd grade teacher, and three years as a 6th grade teacher in the elementary level.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

My experience includes using programs like Saxon Math and Everyday Math to create a solid mathematical foundation for students. I have also served on district math committees, helping to develop instructional calendars and align math instruction with state standards. My approach emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and making math relatable to everyday life, ensuring all students build confidence and competence in math.
Handwriting

Handwriting

As a student teacher for kindergarten, I taught students how to form stick and ball letters. As a second-grade classroom teacher, I taught students how to begin cursive letter formation. In addition, I have been trained to use Handwriting Without Tears.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I chose to homeschool one of my children at the end of her Kindergarten school year as she was advanced and struggled with boredom induced behavior problems. I used a variety of curriculum materials as well as created my own to continue my child's academic growth. The following year, my child was placed in a new school to allow for social growth but kept her challenged at home. I have a well stocked library of resources as well as access to the internet for additional materials as needed, plus I am very creative in how I teach.
