About Elizabeth

I am willing to tutor students of various ages in numerous areas! I love to tutor in many subject areas, mostly in the humanities, such as Religion, History, Social Studies, English, Art History, and Political Science. I also tutor study skills and basic Reading.

I want my students to succeed. This includes not only comprehension and demonstration of comprehension, but also to be equipped with study skills that can be employed in almost any course. As a tutor for several courses during my undergraduate career, I often attended training sessions that taught me about study methods, working with people who have disabilities, working with international and ESL students, and time management. I also tutored during my time in AmeriCorps, working with elementary and middle school-aged ESL students and at-risk students in reading skills.

Before entering graduate school, I tutored for the Public School District, students in grades 6-10, all subject areas.

I have a 24 hour-notice cancellation policy, and am willing to reschedule makeup sessions. I have a somewhat flexible schedule and can travel to meet a student.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I completed the AP US History exam in high school.
My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in History, with an emphasis in the Middle East.
I tutored all four years of my college career, and worked for the public school district as a tutor for middle and high school students (including students taking AP courses) before entering graduate school. During my time as a tutor, I learned many study skill methods and time management strategies to employ in courses like AP US history.

English

I completed the AP English literature, language & composition, and U.S. history exams in high school.
My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Arts in history, with a concentration in the Middle East.

Government & Politics

I interned for my Congressman in Washington, D.C., while studying public and Constitutional law at American University. I took four undergraduate courses in American history and Constitutional law, as well as American politics at St. Norbert College. I studied foreign politics and the public policy process in both undergraduate and graduate school.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in History, emphasis Middle East (St. Norbert College) and a Master's degree in Religious Studies (Claremont Graduate University).

Literature

I completed the AP English Literature & AP Language and Composition Exams in high school. Throughout my undergraduate career, I tutored numerous subjects including English. I was also trained in different study skills methods and time management approaches. I was a tutor in the public school district in various subjects, including AP courses, before entering graduate school.

Religion

I am currently completing a degree in religious studies in the Department of Arts & Humanities at Claremont Graduate University. My work is specifically in the areas of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I am also familiar with other religions, and am continuously learning about them. I have previously tutored in religious studies, and have had much success with laying out timelines and basic themes of religions, sometimes using a student's religious background (or absence of) as a springboard from which to begin our study of it together.

Study Skills

I was trained at St. Norbert College via their Academic Support Services to tutor in study skills. I learned about time management, approaches to studying various subjects, and improving personal study habits. This includes but is not limited to reviewing an individual's daily and weekly schedule, extracurricular activities, optimal study times, and sleep habits. I was trained by teachers, professors, and a social worker to work with students with disabilities and special needs in Americorps. I worked with the AVID program in the state of Minnesota to tutor K-12 students in various subjects. My undergraduate degree is a B.A. in History, emphasis Middle East, (St. Norbert College) and a Master's degree in Religious Studies (Claremont Graduate University).

World History

I completed the AP US history, European history, English literature, and language & composition exams in high school. I have a bachelor of arts in history with a concentration in the Middle East. I recently passed my translation proficiency exam in Spanish for my master's degree, which I am currently working on.
