Any student seeking assistance in understanding government, politics and world affairs will find my background and track-record exceptionally helpful. I spent 20 years working for the U.S. Congress, advising senators and members of the House of Representatives on foreign policy, military and national defense, terrorism, intelligence, and international trade. My experience on Capitol Hill included service in both the House and the Senate, and I bring to my tutoring a very solid understanding of how government functions. I have traveled widely to the Middle East, Asia and Europe, and enjoy sharing lessons learned from those trips, and from my experiences working for the U.S. Congress, with students. I have helped hundreds of students understand developments in every region of the world, and have taught them how to critically analyze issues of the day.
While my professional background is in the areas of national security and foreign affairs, I have also pursued my interest in film and theater studies. While enrolled at the University of Southern California, I studied film history and criticism in that institution's widely-respected School of Cinema Arts, and have also enjoyed studying theater, having been drawn to that subject by my visits to theaters in London, New York, and Washington, D.C. over the course of many years. I have assisted many college students in better understanding the works of numerous playwrights, including Arthur Miller, Tennessee Williams, William Shakespeare, August Wilson, and many others. My enthusiasm for film and theater is reflected in my teachings, and I look forward to assisting more students in understanding and appreciating these fine arts. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
