Hello! I'm a licensed high school science teacher with over 17 years of teaching experience. I currently teach for a highly regarded school district in Minnesota, specializing in Biology and AP Biology while also teaching introductory high school Chemistry and Earth Science courses.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biology and a Master's in Education. Since 2009, I've worked primarily with high school students in grades 9–12, teaching Biology for over 17 years and AP Biology for over 10 years. I have extensive experience helping students understand challenging concepts, develop critical thinking skills, and prepare for assessments, including the AP Biology exam. My areas of expertise include high school and AP-level biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, evolution, ecology, and human anatomy and physiology.
Throughout my teaching career, I've worked with students of all abilities, including those who need additional academic support and those seeking a greater challenge. I understand that science can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when students encounter complex concepts or unfamiliar vocabulary. I believe that with clear explanations, patience, and support, every student can build confidence and experience success.
My tutoring approach focuses on breaking down complex concepts into manageable pieces, connecting concepts to real-world examples, and adapting instruction to each student's needs. I like to begin by identifying what a student already understands and where additional support is needed. From there, I use explanations, visuals, guided practice that encourage students to think critically and apply their knowledge. My goal is not just to help students complete assignments or prepare for tests, but to help them develop a deeper understanding of the material and become more independent, confident learners.
Whether you're struggling with coursework, looking to improve your grades, or preparing for the AP Biology exam, I'd love to help you reach your goals!
