Hi! My name is Tesla and I am a CRLA certified tutor, as well as an English and German licensed teacher. My first formal tutoring experience was in college when I helped my peers with writing papers, resumes, cover letters, theses, and more. It was here that I first felt the satisfaction of watching my peers gradually became more comfortable and confident in their writing throughout a session. I gained experience as an AVID tutor during college. I've completed my first year of teaching and am currently subbing until I can find a classroom I can call my own. I am so blessed to have worked with diverse populations of students-- from middle school to college students, English Language Learners, students with IEPs, physical or mental disabilities, as well as nationalities like Somali students, Hispanic students, and even Austrian students that I worked with abroad.
My teaching relies heavily on building relationships with students, modeling, and guided questioning. For example, when helping a student generate ideas for writing, I often scribe for them; I tell them to answer the question out loud, and as they do so, I write down their ideas--no matter how "messy" they sound! From this we pick what to expand upon, with me asking further questions like, "How would you put this in a sentence? How would you explain this to a friend?" With AI technology spreading to all corners of education, it is paramount that our students learn to do the work themselves and be comfortable asking questions (to a human, not an AI). What makes a student a student is their ability to unlock their unique forms of creativity, not copy and paste what they think their teachers want on the test. My favorite part about my job is watching my students improve upon ideas from their own incredible imaginations.
In summation, I am a qualified tutor and teacher, and I would be ecstatic to meet and learn from new students.
