Hello! I'm Traci, and I have a passion for education, teaching, and learning. I hold a bachelors degree in Spanish and linguistics. During my years in college, I had professors who went above and beyond to ensure that I had the best quality of learning. They were quick to answer any questions I had and were there for additional support outside of the classroom. I have developed this same trait for my students if they have questions or concerns.

Hello! I'm Traci, and I have a passion for education, teaching, and learning. I hold a bachelors degree in Spanish and linguistics. During my years in college, I had professors who went above and beyond to ensure that I had the best quality of learning. They were quick to answer any questions I had and were there for additional support outside of the classroom. I have developed this same trait for my students if they have questions or concerns.

I learned Spanish at age seven in elementary school. As I grew older it was clear I had a niche for it. In college I met many different people from Latin America as well as Spain and adapted to their unique speaking styles. I also worked at a Hispanic community center and worked with Spanish-speaking individuals. In addition, I had the opportunity to live and study abroad in Spain a few years ago and have since adapted my speaking style to Castilian Spanish. It was during this time that my love of the language and culture became paramount.

My teaching journey began nine years ago as an ESL instructor. I taught English to a young Mexican man who wanted to improve his English. It was great a exchange because while I was helping him with English, he was helping me to become more fluent in Spanish. We cultivated a friendship that went beyond our classes. He has since moved back to Mexico and we often kept in touch. From there I gained more traction with students and have taught individuals from all over the world. With respect to Spanish, I began teaching at a K-12 charter school where I taught students in grades 7-12. It was there that my love of teaching amplified. I then started working at another K-12 charter school as a Spanish support teacher and paraprofessional. If there was any translation or interpretation needed, I was there to help my colleagues. I am now a TEFL and Spanish instructor for children and adults.

  • Rate details: Group sessions: $10/person. Students that cancel without a five hour notice will be charged 50% of the lesson rate. Students who are no-shows will be charged the full lesson rate.

I have worked with students review and master key components to the English language. With language arts, we have learned the differences between similes and metaphors, performed short story analyses, identifying types of literature, etc. I have even played a series of Jeopardy with my young students as a fun way to engage and learn these components.

I have worked with individuals from many parts of the world learning and improving their English in the four domains (listening, speaking, reading, and writing). My classes are customized to fit the students' needs because each one learns differently. I utilize images, videos, games, audio clips, etc. as tools to enhance their learning and language abilities.

One of my favorite activities in grammar is gap fill exercises. Students would be tasked to fill in the gaps with the correct component (verb, adjective, conjunction, etc.) depending on the lesson we have just learned. We also play jeopardy to make learning more fun.

I have helped students of English as a Foreign Language improve the four components of English: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. My methodology involves using visuals (videos, pictures) as well as using materials in PDF format to improve and enhance their reading ability
Linguistics

In my years at UM-Flint, I have taken courses pertaining to the construction and analysis of the English language. This includes grammar trees, constructing my own language, studying phonetics, phonology, morphology, semantics, etc. I also have experience in Spanish linguistics with respect to different dialects focusing on how they differentiate with one another. With English, I studied and analyzed different dialects of the many different variations of the language.

I have ten years of experience in teaching grammatical structures and vocabulary of the Spanish language. This includes speaking practice, vocab and grammar games, story analyses, and homework help.

Benjamin is very quite and shy, it takes a minute for Benjamin to warm up to you. Traci is opening him up more to speak. He likes working with her, and can't wait for his next session with her.

Traci is an amazing tutor

Traci is an amazing tutor. I really enjoyed our session. We went over transcriptions for my upcoming exam and homework that my professor assigned for my class. We also went over the vowel sounds such as schwa and wedge. At the end we transcribed more words phonetically and wrote out the correct words which was a lot of fun and made me practice more for my exam. Thank you Traci for tutoring me.
