Above all, I relish the process of developing rapport with kids and adults. My philosophy on teaching and advocacy is that a team approach gives the student or client the best chance of achieving their goals and being an active participant in their community.

Above all, I relish the process of developing rapport with kids and adults. My philosophy on teaching and advocacy is that a team approach gives the student or client the best chance of achieving their goals and being an active participant in their community.

I've been employed in the developmental disabilities field off and on since the mid-1990s, initially as a Special Education paraprofessional and later as a direct care worker for children and adults with autism. I've also been employed as a family and adult case manager for a total of 14 years.

Currently, I'm part of a team that provides round-the-clock care in the home to a 16 year old with autism. During the winter months, I'm employed as a Warming Center Coordinator, supporting our local adult homeless population.

I also wear the hat of Professional Photographer. I've had my photography business, Tedlow Photography, since early 2021. I'm very proud of my accomplishments in the three plus years that I've been its owner and sole proprietor.

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I myself was diagnosed as an adult with ADHD. In addition, I worked with young adults with ADHD when I was employed as a Special Education Paraprofessional by Eugene 4J School District between 1996 and 1999.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I've been employed in the developmental disabilities field for twenty-two years. The positions I've held include Case Manager, Special Education Paraprofessional, and direct care worker supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Currently, I am employed by an agency in the Portland area as a school-based Behavior Health Professional. My client is a high school Junior with a Traumatic Brain Injury.
English

English

I have excellent English language skills, buth written and verbal. Teaching and tutoring children and adults has been a big part of my life since my first job in Special Education in the mid-1990’s. I have a lot of patience and empathy, and I prefer to listen calmly rather than dominate the conversation.
Football

Football

When I was in junior high school, a bunch of friends and I would play tackle football together on weekends. It was a lot of fun and I actually miss it sometimes when I think back to that time in my life. I grew up loving the New York Jets, and although I now live in the Pacific Northwest, I still follow how they're doing when each NFL season comes around.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I began using Macs in college in 1986, and I've owned only Mac computers and products since graduating from college in 1993. I love the look of Mac products and the intuitive way in which the operating systems are designed. I owned a Windows laptop for a short time several years back and I don't plan on going back!
Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows

I am familiar with Windows platforms not so much from personal use, but because being a skilled Windows user has been a requirement for nearly all the jobs I've had since I graduated from college. While I definitely prefer Mac OSs, and hardware, I have become very accustomed to switching between Mac and Windows computers. The one time I used only Mac computers was when I was a Special Ed. Assistant in Eugene between 1996 and 1999.
Photography

Photography

I've been a photography enthusiast since I was an elementary school student. That was when my mother gave me my first camera, a point and shoot that took 110 cartridge film. I am mostly self-trained but I did take general photography courses that involved training in darkroom work at Pasadena City College in 1990 and The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in 1993. At Evergreen, I also earned college credit as a paid photography intern at the House of Representatives at the state capital. My 3-month internship there was definitely one of the highlights of my college career.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have supported kids and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the past 21 years. I have worked in a variety of community and educational settings, both as a Special Education Paraprofessional and as a case manager. Currently, I am a Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) with Connections for Kids, a non-profit agency based in Portland. As a BHP, I work one-on-one with a high school student with a Traumatic Brain Injury. Although I am a full time employee, there are quite a few unpaid days off during the school year, so I am looking to supplement my income doing something that I love.
Swimming

Swimming

Between 2015 and 2016, I provided one-on-one, community-based supports to a ten year old boy with Autism and limited expressive language skills. One of his preferred activities was swimming, so we swam together at several indoor and outdoor pools near his home. My role, in addition to supervising my client in the pool and in the changing area, was to make pool staff aware of his communication challenges, and to address any concerns they might have about his abilities in the water.
Writing

Writing

While pursuing a four year undergraduate degree, I majored in English with an emphasis in creative writing. After obtaining my Bachelor's Degree, I held a series of jobs in the developmental disabilities field, the majority of which required a command of grammar, sentence structure, advanced vocabulary, and spelling.

Excellent Mac Lessons

I bought my 96 year old father a MacBook, and hired Andrew to help bring him up to speed on it. He did an excellent job — my father really enjoyed the lessons, and is now able to do what he needs to on the machine.
