I have 3 years of experience tutoring students at both the high school and university levels. As a Graduate Student Instructor, I taught college students in statistics coursework through one-on-one office hours. During my undergraduate studies, I also tutored high school students in math and other STEM subjects. These experiences allow me to tailor my teaching approach to students with different backgrounds and levels of preparation.
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master's degree in Biostatistics, where I developed a strong foundation in statistics and data science. My graduate training includes both statistical theory and practical computing using R, Python, and C++. I have also received training in advanced topics such as Bayesian methods, clinical trial design, and machine learning.
My educational background across different countries has also shaped my teaching style. I completed my high school education in China and ranked among the top 0.5% of students in the national college entrance examination. Experiencing different education systems has given me a broader perspective on learning and teaching. My earlier education provided me with a strong quantitative foundation and problem-solving skills, while my graduate training strengthened my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
Throughout my tutoring experience, I have noticed that many students find maths and statistics challenging because these subjects are often presented as abstract formulas to memorize. My approach is to break down complex concepts into intuitive explanations and connect them with real-world applications. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to build their confidence in quantitative thinking. When students fully understand why a method works, they become more independent learners and better prepared for future academic and professional challenges.
