My name is Khalil B. and I am a graduate of the University of Michigan, receiving my bachelor's degree in Physics, and my master's and PhD degrees in Applied Physics. I have always enjoyed math and science and thinking and talking about how concepts surrounding them works. I would start by talking to myself and explaining the concepts in the simplest terms I can, then practice explaining them to others so they could understand. Over time, I would get a reputation as an approachable person that was always eager to answer questions humbly. This would usually end in me helping others with homework or describing a different way of thinking about a problem to make it easier to grasp.
Though I have not been a tutor of school subjects for long, I do have extensive experience in teaching/coaching others. I have informally trained many people from adolescents to adults in parkour for over 10 years, and from that experience, learned when to use different teaching approaches for different students. I also learned that students are more receptive of instruction or guidance when you show them that even if they make mistakes, that they are seen as no less capable of understanding or performing than even the instructor. For this reason, I am committed to humility and compassion when it comes to guiding others.
I am very open to suggestions from parents or students when it comes to creating a better learning environment for them. To me, I don't succeed unless they succeed, so feel free to contact me for further questions.
