Bio

I recently graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. I am currently a PhD student in the department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics at the University of Michigan. I was a teaching assistant for the general chemistry undergraduate courses at MSU for 2 years and I have hundreds of hours of one on one tutoring experience. I recently graduated from Michigan State University with a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. I am currently a PhD student in the department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics at the University of Michigan. I was a teaching assistant for the general chemistry undergraduate courses at MSU for 2 years and I have hundreds of hours of one on one tutoring experience. As a tutor, I strive to motivate students by sharing my enthusiasm and excitement for the sciences. My goal is to make learning enjoyable and to provide a positive learning experience by showing patience and encouragement.

I have taught undergraduate general chemistry as a teaching assistant for 2 years and have hundreds of hours of one on one tutoring experience. As an undergraduate at MSU, I worked for Dr Robert L. LaDuca as an undergraduate researcher for 3 years. Our research involved the synthesis of metal-organic coordination polymers and the characterization of their molecular structure and physical properties. Through this work, I have had the opportunity to co-author 22 research articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of inorganic chemistry. Additionally, Dr LaDuca and I received a national award for this work- the 2012 American Chemical Society Division of Inorganic Chemistry Award for Undergraduate Research. The award recognizes the collaborative research of an outstanding North American undergraduate student and his preceptor in the field of inorganic chemistry.

I received a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University. Active scientific research has been a major activity and the focus of my life for the past 7 years, and has afforded me the opportunities to develop my experimental skills and scientific knowledge to an expert level. Research remains an active part of my life and requires that I not only maintain but also expand my knowledge to remain an expert. Currently, I am using computational methods to apply biochemical and chemical concepts to biomedical problems in order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms that give rise to disease. Masters Thesis Biochemical Research: My thesis was titled "Experimental and Theoretical Studies of the Mitochondrial Replisome." My research advisor was Dr Laurie S. Kaguni and my research focused on two enzymes involved in mitochondrial DNA replication: the mitochondrial DNA polymerase Pol gamma, and the mitochondrial DNA helicase, nicknamed TWINKLE. Hundreds of human disease mutations affect these two enzymes and cause various mitochondrial disorders such as progressive external ophthalmoplegia (PEO) and a severe infantile onset disorder called Alpers syndrome which usually results in death at an early age. The goal of my project was to characterize the biochemical defects of these mutations and predict the severity of disease of new mutations. I also investigated the biochemical and physical properties of the mitochondrial DNA helicase to advance our knowledge of its function(s) within living cells.

Smart, Extremely helpful, patient and nice

Greg taught me many things that I did not understand when my teacher taught it. Some of these things being, Finding the polarity of something, titration, geometric shapes of compounds, and many others. Greg is an extremely helpful tutor and is patient and cool.
