I graduated with distinction with a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition and Food Science, and accepted as a medical school student at the Michigan State College of Human Medicine.

As a Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader at Wayne State University from 2018-2020, I created study guides, practice tests, and activities to guide students in both a classroom setting of up to 50 people and during one-on-one instruction over 600 hours. As a Tutor and Supplemental Instruction Leader at Wayne State University from 2018-2020, I created study guides, practice tests, and activities to guide students in both a classroom setting of up to 50 people and during one-on-one instruction over 600 hours. I've worked with a variety of students from different backgrounds and cultures, and learned to adapt my lessons to individual student needs. I normally use a lot of visual diagrams and go through every process step by step. In addition to teaching and reinforcing material, I also work to build confidence! That's why I constantly reinforce the idea of really understanding and applying the material instead of just memorizing. In 2019, I was awarded Supplemental Instruction Leader of the Year and received a promotion, in which I coached and provided support for other tutors looking to build rapport with their own students. Since graduating, I also work as a K-12 tutor.

I usually begin each lesson by determining where you are at, so I can then tailor my explanations to your own personal learning style. If you've ever had the feeling of "I just don't know where to start", or "there's just so much I don't know", I'm familiar with how to help you identify those deficiencies and make a solid plan moving forward. Even if you've had the feeling of "I'm already confident with the material", I can help you get even more practice and stay ahead. I'm very detailed when teaching, but also want you to see how everything connects together in a complete picture. In science, this is extremely important! Many times, you'll be leaving my tutoring sessions with thorough notes to take home as well.

As a Supplemental Instruction Leader with over 600 hours of tutoring in science (biology/biochemistry), I'm adaptable and patient in my tutoring approach. The MCAT is known for being one of the most grueling standardized exams, though I've developed specific strategies to improve understanding and application of the topics. As an MCAT examinee myself, I made mistakes that I learned from the hard way, although my new approach led me to increase my own score by 6 points and I am currently applying to medical school. The results I helped my students achieve as SI Leader led me to receive a promotion and Supplemental Instruction Leader of the Year, and many students have come back to express how their experience has helped them vastly increase their score on the MCAT.

Iris is a phenomenal tutor. From the first time we communicated with her, she was generous with her time, and extremely thoughtful in terms of the questions she asked, going above and beyond asking questions and really getting to know the student to help my son improve some of the lower grades he receiving in AP Biology. My son has really enjoyed his time with her during lessons, and we look forward to continuing lessons with her, really appreciating the level of detail and personalized support she has been providing.

Iris was an excellent tutor. She was easy to complicate with and set up a tutoring time. She was happy to look over the questions/worksheet for the honors Chem class in advance. My daughter said she was great to work with, helpful and made her more confident for an upcoming test. Iris not only helped her understand the practice questions but the information in detail. Some of the rest questions were different but based on their tutoring session my daughter understood how to answer them. After the session was over Iris reached out and provided notes she wrote up during the session. I was able to print those out and my daughter found them helpful along with her notes she took. We will use Iris again as a tutor!!

Iris is a great tutor because she is confident and knows very hard complex science material. She knows how to break hard science concepts down into simpler terms so I could understand. Incredible tutor for biochemistry!

Iris is really good at helping you form a strong base and showing you how previous topics come up again in new topics. She is very patient and sweet. She never makes you feel bad for answering a question wrong and is incredible at explaining why the right answer is the right answer. She is also very easy to schedule with as long as you don't wait until the last minute.
