I'm James! I earned my bachelor's degree in biology and secondary education and earned my master's in environmental science. I completed my PhD in biology studying infectious disease ecology. I am passionate about science education and have a strong background in teaching life and environmental sciences across a broad range of learners from grade 5 up through upper-level college undergraduates.
My teaching career includes one year teaching junior high, five years teaching high school science, and 5 years teaching undergraduate college laboratories. During the time I taught junior high-level, I taught life and physical sciences (grades 5-8). While teaching high school, I taught classes across natural science including Biology 9, Environmental Science, Anatomy & Physiology, and AP Biology. While pursuing my PhD I have taught undergraduate labs in introductory biology and advanced ecology and parasitology labs.
I have always enjoyed sharing what I have learned with my students and helping them to better understand the world around them. During my lessons, I utilize visual aids, practical examples, and always try to make lessons meaningful and engaging to help students. My goal is to help students make connections to the real world and better understand topics in order to more fully appreciate how topics build on each other and relate to ideas outside those being covered, even when lessons are tough. I am always excited to help students out along their own educational path and advance in their scientific endeavors.
