My name is Erica, and I am an actuary in metro Detroit. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2011 with a double major in mathematics and Spanish, and a concentration in Actuarial Science.
I have a very strong math background, completing mathematics through Calc 4 in high school, followed with a major in the honors math program at MSU. My actuarial science minor required economics and computer science programming through an intermediate level, while the math major required both Physics and Chemistry.
I started learning Spanish when I was 7-years-old and majored in Spanish at MSU. I spent five months living in Valencia, Spain with a host family that did not speak any English, while taking literature, culture, and art classes at the University of Valencia.
I have an established teaching and tutoring background. I was a TA for three years at MSU, teaching Algebra my sophomore year and pre-Calculus my junior year. After my junior year, I was selected to be one of two undergraduate TAs to lead Linear Algebra recitation sessions. In addition to teaching, I worked several hours a week in the Math Learning Center, tutoring Differential Equations and Linear Algebra, and worked an additional 15-20 hours a week privately tutoring other students (all of whom had me as a TA and requested help in later semesters).
Since graduation I have been a private tutor evenings and weekends, tutoring high school and college students in Spanish, Economics (micro and macro - through 300 level), Physics (through AP and 100 level), Chemistry (through AP and 100 level), and Python (through 200 level) in addition to all math and statistics levels, 15-20 hours a week for the past 15 years.
Teaching has always been my passion, and I love to work with students one-on-one and see their progress. I look forward to having the opportunity to continue to help students master their course material!
