Hello! My name is Julian G. and I look forward to being your English language teacher. I am a graduate of the International TEFL Academy and certified as a Level 5 teacher. In addition to private tutoring, I currently teach English and consult at the Siena Literacy Center in Detroit, Michigan and the Dominican Learning Center in Columbus, Ohio. I hold a doctorate in psychology from the University of Detroit-Mercy and have worked for over 35 years as a teacher, counselor, and psychologist. My first experience as a tutor was working with learning-disabled children during the summers in upstate New York. Then, as a graduate student in psychology, I taught undergraduate classes in introductory psychology. After completing my graduate program, one of my responsibilities was to instruct doctoral students who were learning their core professional skills to work as psychologists. I also tutored adult students who were working to complete their GEDs. I enjoyed helping them gain the English language and math skills they needed to pass their exams.
I especially enjoy teaching English because it provides the opportunity to meet and work with wonderful people from all parts of the globe who have interesting backgrounds and life experiences. They have remarkably diverse reasons for learning English, but all are seeking to broaden their horizons. Learning English provides exciting new possibilities and opportunities for many people. I have a very individualized approach to teaching English. I believe in getting to know each learner, including their unique goals for listening, speaking, reading, and writing with new grammar, vocabulary, and subject matter. I help each student to fulfill their learning potential, building confidence and a feeling of comfort when communicating in English. A key to this success is that I teach in a manner that is compassionate, focused, supportive, and enjoyable. I hope to meet you soon and would be honored to be your teacher!
