I have 10 years teaching experience and I have always had a passion for helping others. My career has given me experience in working with a diverse group of students from many different backgrounds. I have achieved a 90% Achieved over 90% growth in the past five years on pre/post data. I designed, wrote, and implemented a Standards-Based Curriculum to differentiate learning.
I first taught at Red Cloud Indian School as a part of an AmeriCorps Volunteer Program. At Red Cloud I found a mission to believe in and in this mission I was able to become part of a family atmosphere that puts student needs first and foremost. I have continued this at my current job at a public school in the Metro-Detroit area. My years of teaching have only deepened my love for education. It is my vocation to teach students and I see tutoring as an extension of this.
I have gained the the experience necessary to run a caring and productive classroom. And as I have passed the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification in both History, Social Studies, and Sociology and graduated with honors from Alma College I meet the state requirements to be considered highly qualified.
My educational philosophy can be summarized as follows:
I believe a teacher is meant to guide students through their learning experience. Teaching is above all about inspiring and empowering students; inspiring students to reach their full potential and empowering them through the acquisition of knowledge. A teacher has the ability to greatly affect their students’ lives and such a role requires respect and humility. Respect for individual students, their differing learning styles, and their differing cultures. Humility in knowing that you will make mistakes and so will the students; mistakes are a natural part of learning and should be used to grow, not centered upon as faults.
Thank you for considering me as your tutor.
