As a math teacher for the past 11 years, I have had experience with traditional and common core based math instruction. Having earned a double major in Math and Biology in my undergraduate studies, working in the computer industry for 14 years and earning a Master's in Teaching degree gives me a better perspective on what is needed to be successful in problem solving in math and life.
I specialize in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 tutoring. I strive to make connections in the math concepts, so students don't feel like they are constantly learning new material. There are many areas where math concepts are leveraged in more complex topics. This is where my strength in seeing these connections in the math exists. It is important for students to tie the mathematics into real situations to add that additional level of connection and understanding. When students can recall a similar scenario with a real life basis, it becomes much easier to decide what direction to take in solving the problem.
As we work together for student success, I will pre-asses and re-assess student understanding in current concepts as well as fundamental math concepts. It is important for students to gain understanding of missing concepts as we, also, move forward with new concepts. Continuous improvement in all necessary math concepts is my goal.
I require a 24 hour cancellation notice. We can work together to schedule a make-up session.

Jennifer is a very understanding and accommodating individual who would adjust her timing to make sure the student is receiving the lesson that he is supposed to and also preps the student as needed. I really appreciate her efforts.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Our school offers a 1 term class in ACT Prep. Students rotate every 10 days from Science, Math and English. I taught the Math portion for 2 terms, so I have taught 6 rotations of the Math portion of the ACT Test.
I have taught Algebra 1 for 9 years at the high school level. Students in these classes contained many levels of students. I have, also, taught in a team taught environment with a Special Education teacher in Algebra 1 classes.
I have taught Algebra 2 for 9 years at the high school level. Students in these classes contained many levels of students. These classes were taught using a traditional textbook and an investigative approach textbook.
I have taught PreAlgebra for the past 10 years.
