My name is Rafel, and I am a current dental student looking to help students pursuing medical/dental school. My academic journey reflects a strong foundation in the sciences, maintaining a high science GPA and earning a 21 on the DAT (a competitive score for the majority of schools), which allowed me to complete my degree and begin dental school a year early. These achievements stem from both a deep understanding of the material and the ability to study efficiently—skills I now share with my students.

I specialize in tutoring all prerequisite medical and dental biology courses, including general biology, genetics, microbiology, immunology, neuroscience, and evolutionary biology. I have a strong background in genetics, having earned an A in the subject during my undergraduate studies and revisiting it as part of my biomedical sciences curriculum in dental school.

I also tutor general chemistry and offer comprehensive DAT preparation. Beyond coursework, I have extensive experience guiding students through the dental school application process, helping them craft compelling personal statements, refine experience sections, and build well-balanced, strategic school lists.

My tutoring approach focuses on simplifying complex concepts and turning memorization into understanding. I emphasize active learning strategies and long-term retention tools so students can confidently apply what they learn on exams and beyond. Whether it’s mastering the sciences or navigating the path to professional school, my goal is to make each session engaging, effective, and tailored to your unique goals.

DAT (Dental)

DAT (Dental)

I scored a 21 on the DAT which is considered a competitive score for the majority of schools, giving me firsthand experience with the exam’s format, timing, and question styles. I specialize in helping students prepare for all sections of the DAT, including biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, perceptual ability, and reading comprehension. I focus on teaching strategies to efficiently tackle questions, retain key concepts, and manage time effectively during the exam. My approach combines content review with practical test-taking techniques to help students build confidence and achieve competitive scores.
Dentistry

Dentistry

I am a current dental student with a strong passion for helping others succeed in the sciences and navigate the path to dental school. I have experience tutoring students in subjects such as general biology, microbiology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, and general chemistry, as well as preparing for the DAT. I also guide pre-dental students through the application process, offering advice on personal statements, experience organization, and selecting schools strategically. My teaching style emphasizes clear explanations, practical study techniques, and building long-term understanding that students can apply both on exams and in future clinical training.
Genetics

Genetics

I have a strong background in genetics, having earned an A in the subject during my undergraduate studies and revisiting it as part of my biomedical sciences curriculum in dental school. Through these experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of key concepts such as Mendelian inheritance, molecular genetics, gene expression, and genetic variation. I have experience helping students break down complex topics into manageable, understandable sections and providing strategies for retaining information for exams. My approach focuses on making genetics both approachable and relevant, connecting theory to real-world applications in medicine and dentistry.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

I recently completed a graduate-level neuroscience course, giving me a strong foundation in topics such as neuroanatomy, neural signaling, sensory and motor systems, and cognitive processes. Through this course, I gained experience analyzing complex neurological concepts and applying them to both clinical and research contexts. I have experience helping students simplify challenging material, develop effective study strategies, and retain knowledge for exams. My approach emphasizes connecting theoretical neuroscience concepts to real-world applications in medicine and dentistry, making the subject engaging and accessible.
