I'm Emily! I have fifteen years experience teaching and training in K-12 instruction for dyslexia, language comprehension and verbal expression, specifically in the Seeing Star, Visualizing and Verbalizing, LiPS and Talkies programs (Lindamood-Bell). I'm Emily! I have fifteen years experience teaching and training in K-12 instruction for dyslexia, language comprehension and verbal expression, specifically in the Seeing Star, Visualizing and Verbalizing, LiPS and Talkies programs (Lindamood-Bell). I work with students from early childhood through adulthood, one-on-one and in small groups, and specialize in special populations, i.e. students with learning disabilities, IEPs and 504 plans.

I am a former employee of Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, where I spent my career teaching students, mentoring school district staff, and presenting training workshops to groups of 10-100 educators, tutors, parents and speech and language pathologists. My experience includes administering and interpreting standardized assessment data and meeting with school district leadership to explain student needs and appropriate next steps.

I believe every student has the right to an education that allows them to someday become an independent learner. I look forward to hearing about your student's goals and needs!

Approved Subjects

ADHD

ADHD

I have 15 years experience in 1:1 intensive intervention teaching visualization strategies that strengthen reading and comprehension skills, with the majority of my students carrying neurodivergent diagnoses such as ADHD. Flexible work spaces, extra time to process information, task-trackers, and gamified learning are some of the accommodations I frequently use! I hold a K-5 classroom and K-8 ELA teaching certificate with a "BX" endorsement, which includes speech, reading, writing, English, language arts, literature, and journalism.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I am a former Lindamood-Bell employee who has trained hundreds of educators across the country in both the Visualizing and Verbalizing and Talkies programs. These programs follow the CBT or developmental model. Visualizing and Verbalizing (V/V) is research-validated by peer-reviewed neurological studies to improve reading comprehension. Talkies is a primer to V/V.
Dyslexia

Dyslexia

I am a former employee of Lindamood-Bell and have trained hundreds of educators in two programs for dyslexia: Seeing Stars, and LiPS. Both programs are research-validated by peer-reviewed neurological research to improve reading fluency in students with dyslexia.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have 15 years experience working 1:1 with students who struggle in reading and language comprehension and math. I hold a Michigan K-5 classroom and K-8 ELA teaching certificate with a "BX" endorsement, which includes speech, reading, writing, English, language arts, literature, and journalism.
Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning

I have 15 years experience working 1:1 with students in elementary, secondary and post-secondary school, teaching visualization techniques to assist with reading, language comprehension and organization. My secondary students have included seniors working to improve their SAT/ACT scores and apply to Ivy League schools, and my post-secondary students have included doctors in their residencies, and students taking the GRE and BAR exams. For these older students, part of instruction included developing the processes required to succeed, such as planning out each step of a project or assignment directly to their calendar, appropriately predicting time each step would take, and visualizing when during their day it would make the most sense to complete their tasks.
Reading

Reading

I have 15 years experience teaching students and training teachers, reading specialists, and speech and language pathologist in the Seeing Stars and LiPS programs from Lindamood-Bell. These programs develop the sensory connection between the brain and the foundational skills needed to read and comprehend.
