Hi, I'm Son Ny, but you can call me Sunny! I was born and raised in Vietnam, and I moved to the U.S. to reunite with my family a few years ago. Back in Vietnam, I attended Da Nang University of Foreign Languages, where I majored in Chinese and English. And, of course, Vietnamese is my native language.
Teaching is my life’s passion! Throughout my educational journey, I realized that the classes I enjoyed most were often because of the teachers. Their patience, engagement, and willingness to go the extra mile left a lasting impression on me and inspired me to build a career where I could shape the future through education. I hold a TEFL certificate and have over 12 years of experience as a highly rated instructor specializing in English for Vietnamese and Chinese speakers, as well as Vietnamese for English speakers, heritage learners, and anyone interested in the language, culture, or doing business in Vietnam. While I mainly teach online classes now, I also have extensive experience teaching in person when I was in Vietnam. I also have experience working as a Chinese–English–Vietnamese translator in Vietnam, which has strengthened my communication skills and allows me to help students communicate with greater confidence and accuracy.
I’m especially good with children, so if your child is young, don’t hesitate to reach out! My teaching approach is not just about being a teacher, but also being a friend, creating a comfortable, supportive environment where students can feel relaxed, confident, and truly enjoy learning. We’ll usually start with a language assessment to identify the student’s current level and areas for improvement. From there, I tailor each lesson and the learning materials to their specific needs, helping them save time and focus on improving their weaknesses.
