I’m Maureen! I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders. Afterwards, I began working as a school age child care assistant for elementary school. I developed great relationships with the students. The students appreciated the time and effort I spent on planning activities for them, and they showed me much love and appreciation. I decided to get a teaching certification because I loved helping students learn and develop. During my first year teaching, I took teaching classes, and I gained my Interim Teaching Certificate. After three years of teaching, I received my Standard Teaching Certificate.
During my first year of teaching, I developed an intense passion for teaching. I decided to pursue a Master Degree in Education. After three years of balancing teaching and studying, I completed my Master Degree in Education with a specialization in Teacher Leadership and Curriculum Instruction. My Master Degree prepared me with more effective ways for teaching students like more structured lesson plans, questioning strategies, and interactive activities. I was a full time classroom teacher for four years in elementary school. I have been a long term substitute teacher in elementary school for two years.
My approach for teaching and tutoring is that I will do the activity first, then we will do it together, and then you will do it on your own. So, first I model how to solve a problem, then we solve a problem together, and then you do the problem on your own. I have experience tutoring students in College for biology, chemistry, and algebra. Recently, I have been tutoring students for about a year in mathematics, in particular, algebra. I have strong mathematical skills, and I scored in the middle 30’s on the ACT Test for Mathematics. I want to help students as much as possible, so I have all my problems ready and prepared before the lesson. I teach students all the knowledge that I know in mathematics to help them succeed.
