I am an experienced Hebrew, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and Jewish ritual/cultural practices instructor. I have extensive experience teaching teens, pre-teen, and adults, including those with mild learning disabilities. I love to teach to give back to the community for all of the support and instruction I received from my teachers and mentors.
I also practiced law for 30 years, and have experience with all communication skills, including public, persuasive, and extemporaneous speaking, as well as persuasive writing. I have a talent for making difficult concepts understandable.
I have been tutoring in Hebrew, for Bar/Bat Mitzvah, and other Jewish ritual/cultural practices for 43 years. I was the Ritual Director of my (conservative) synagogue for 10 years, and was the principal Torah reader on all occasions, in addition to organizing and leading the daily minyan. I coordinated the Bar/Bat Mitzvah instruction program, and taught many of the students. I taught beginning and intermediate Hebrew Literacy, and cantillation skills, to adults. Every student is different, and I customize my approach to meet individual needs and skills.
I practice law for 30 years, with extensive court (trial and appellate) experience, which involved drafting pleadings and presenting oral presentations. I was the Editor of my Law Society newsletter for 12 years, which involved drafting my content, and reviewing and proofreading others' contributions. In college, I took writing courses from Prof. Sheridan Baker, who authored one of the recognized texts on writing, emphasizing use of the active voice.
My greatest professional pleasure is teaching others, and passing on skills learned over a lifetime. I can accommodate flexible scheduling, and will travel to your home or other location (such as a library) for lessons. Please contact me so that we can discuss an individual plan that meets your goals and requirements.
