My name is Kyle, I obtained my bachelors degree in human biology from Michigan state university, and recently graduated with my medical degree from Michigan state college of Osteopathic medicine. While preparing myself for medical residency I aim to continue my passion of life-long learning and education by tutoring students who are interested in pursuing similar passions. My aim is to make learning interactive and engaging while providing teaching methods that have been curated through my experiences at institutions of higher learning. Being a first generation college and professional school graduate, gaining the confidence to traverse higher learning can seem like a daunting task. That confidence can absolutely be taught and gained by anyone!
Throughout undergraduate and medical school studies I tutored other college students and professionals in my free time in the subjects of algebra, statistics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, basic sciences and many more. This was typically in the form of group or 1 on 1 setting. I was often bored or frustrated when learning because time/focus was placed on broad topics that I had felt comfortable with, causing me to “check-out”. To prevent this same scenario with my students, I take a personalized approach. I like to begin lessons with a very brief overview of the topic, then assess the students understanding of the topic with specific questions allowing me to highlight strengths/weakness in understanding. This helps keep students engaged with the material covered and build confidence by challenging the student to “think about what they do not know”.
I hope to provide my students with the knowledge and power to be resourceful learners, and build confidence in their own critical thinking skills. My aim is to show that “not knowing” is not a weakness, but an opportunity, and that learning “how to learn” is a skill that can make education a much more rewarding experience. I look forward to working with you!
