I've always wanted to be a teacher. Therefore, after being laid off from GM, I had the opportunity to go back to school and earn a M.A. in education. After earning my degree, I was fortunate enough to find work in a small Catholic school, and then went on to find a teaching position with the Detroit Public School system. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, I had to stop working.
From experience, I have found that it's important to evaluate a student first, prior to tutoring on any subject. This evaluation will help me understand why a student is having trouble in a particular area, and what steps to take to help them overcome the problem.
I've always held the belief that, given the opportunity, any one can learn and that your never too old to learn. For this reason, in my spare time, I volunteer with a Literacy Center tutoring adults in reading.
