Hola!
I just retired from 30 years of doing what I loved- teaching Spanish in a high school classroom in a very competitive school district! Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish/English (with a secondary teaching certificate) and a Master's Degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education, I have inspired and encouraged thousands of teens to learn Spanish and see its importance and benefits in the real world, whether for academics, employment, travel or social connections. One of my strengths is being able explain in many different ways until students understand. I also love to create examples and practice activities that build skills and solidify understanding.
In addition to creating dynamic, engaging and easy-to-follow lessons, I interacted with my students in Spanish as much as possible so that they began to feel comfortable and confident in using the target language with me and with each other. Of course, the grammatical structures and language functions are important to understand, but a focus on communication is just as crucial. After all, that is the goal of all languages, right?
I have taught beginner levels all the way through AP courses, and have worked at the university level, as well as working in Spain to help students with English! I have always been able to meet students where they are- helping them get to where they want to go in a low-pressure, fun, and efficient manner. (My certified classroom therapy dog, Pablo, helped with that as wellI ). I also enjoy working with students one-on-one to assess their personal learning needs and design lessons accordingly. Helping a student understand something that seemed confusing or impossible at first is one of the most rewarding experiences ever!
