About Mirah

Bio

I have been a Math tutor since 1997 and I was a Math teacher in a well known Catholic school in my home country too from 2007 - 2011. I have experienced teaching with various curriculums such as International Baccalaureate, Cambridge and Indonesian national curriculum as well. I work with students on topics from Pre-algebra to Calculus 1, whether for a class or as part of test preparation such as ACT or SAT.

My goal as an effective tutor is to help my students personally, from the subject...

My goal as an effective tutor is to help my students personally, from the subject that they first dislike/struggle at the beginning into having a better understanding on the subject as they finish the tutoring session with me. It has been my personal achievement to witness my students’ smiles when they finally can master the topics and improve their scores.

ACT Math

I usually will give a set of ACT sample test so I can know in which math topic that the student have difficulties. From there, the student and I will work on each topic that the student made mistakes or haven't understood yet. I also teach how to crack the math problems in a less consuming time because doing it fast and correct is very important in ACT test. I also teach students how to use the calculator wisely and well to save time.

I have assisted students from various curriculum such as Cambridge, International Baccalaureate and national curriculum. I use real life terms to relate the subjects to show them how Algebra 1 is actually applied in their daily life. I also use real life problems to show how Algebra 1 can help them solve daily life problems.

I have taught Algebra 2 for years. I have assisted students from various curriculum such as Cambridge, International Baccalaureate and national curriculum as well. I use real life terms to relate the subjects to show them how Algebra 2 is actually applied in their daily life. I have assisted students from various curriculum such as Cambridge, International Baccalaureate and national curriculum. I will use real objects in 3D rather than 2D to explain for those students that have difficulties in visualizing. I use real life problems to relate the subjects to show them how Geometry can help them in solving daily life problems.
Indonesian

Indonesian

Indonesian is my mother tongue. I was born and grew up in Indonesia for 35 years before I move to United States. I also attended Indonesian schools since kindergarten till university. I taught in Indonesian schools in Jakarta and I am more than capable to speak and teach Indonesian language.

I have assisted students in preparing SAT Math for years. I usually will give a set of SAT sample test so I can know in which math topic that the student have difficulties. From there, the student and I will work on each topic that the student made mistakes or haven't understood yet. I make sure the students know how to do paper and pencil calculation in a smart way for the non-calculator part of the test. Awesome Tutor

Mirah is a awesome Tutor, she has been helping my son with SAT prep and understanding Pre-calculus. In one hour he has learned more than his high school teacher taught him in one week. She really knows what she is talking about and is a good teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs help. We are lucky to have found her.
